Religion would have died out if only two small policies had been adhered to.

1)No special tax status for churches, temples etc. They bring in money for their invisible 'product', which they need neither manufacture, store, maintain, transport nor guarantee. That's enough of a business advantage if you ask me, although I will admit the competition appears to be fierce.

2)People who deny science should not have to rely upon it when it's convenient to them to do so. You got cancer? Go ahead, prove your faith by trying to pray it away. Doesn't it say in the bible that if a Christian asks a mountain to move, it will? Good luck with that.
